SAD-Seasonal Affective Disorder  is a form of depression influenced by the seasons where there exists a pattern of symptoms that  recur at the same time each year. There are two types Winter SAD (winter blues) and Summer SAD (summer depression). Little is know about the latter, and the workshop will focus on Winter SAD. Whilst Dysthymic  Disorder is all year round depression that can persists for years and even decades.

SAD affects around 2%- 3% of  people  in Northern Europe very badly. Whilst about 10%  cope  with milder symptoms of SAD (sub- syndrome SAD). Additionally the further away one is from the equator the more cases of SAD arise except where there is snow on the ground where it becomes less common.
